Some more breaking news from the Viewfactor camp. The remote motors will now be sold direct from Viewfactor instead of RED. Words from Curt of Viewfactor below:
"Ok, after much deliberation we have decided to post some images of the motors we have been working on.... The first few images are actual protos that we have up and running, the last two are renders of the final design that is going to be tooled up shortly. We will shipping at the end of April but it is going to depend solely on demand. If we receive a minimum of 500 orders then we can guarantee delivery by the end of April.... if we do not receive enough pre-orders then it will take more time. Here are some Details on the motor: * Voltage: 12V-24V input (motor has built in voltage regulator, controller, and amplifier) * Dimensions: 6.24in L x 1.18in W x 2.02in H(without Gear), 6.24in L x 1.24in W x 2.02in H(wth Gear) * Gear-to-Bar length: 2.62 in to 4.47 in (adjustable clamp arm) * Torque: 150 oz-in Min. * Speed: 120 Rpm Max * Communications: RS232/CAN bus
Please note that these aren't typical digital motors. They are not compatible with any wireless controller on the market. There are a couple reasons why we decided to go down this path... The first is that everything we saw on the market fell way below our expectations on performance. We wanted an integrated package that is void of any external motor amplifiers and voltage converters. The Inclino motors are fully integrated motors that only require a external control and power... nothing else. Secondly we couldn't achieve the flexibility and features that we wanted by complying with the current motor design methodology.
The motors run on a bus architecture so they can be daisy chained and run in parallel. This helps eliminate cable clutter among other things. We are also working on getting our lens breathing compensation (LBC) in place so we can virtually eliminate lens breathing on most lenses, this requires inter-motor communication to work. LBC won't be in the shipping units but we have verified that our hardware works as expected so it will be in a future firmware release. The motors are also fully compatible with Mirus so full motion control of pan, tilt, zoom, focus and Iris control is possible.
From our testing on these motors I can tell you that they are at least as fast as the DM1 from Preston and they have plenty of torque to move even the stiffest lenses. If you need to move a really stiff lens then you will need to make sure that your 12V input can sink at least 2A. If you are running 24V then you will need to sink 1A.
The motors are fully compatible with our Impero Micro and Standard controls. The micro just has to be connected to one of the two input connectors and it will allow you to run the motor as a conventional follow focus with the added benefit of zero backlash , real time variable gearing, and the flexibility of running it through a cable up to 9 feet in length. The Impero Standard will allow you to run up to three motors via wireless control - more info and pictures shortly.
Pricing on one motor is $900 and we will be requiring 1/2 down for the pre-order. The motor does not include the cable because there are various configurations that can be run. There will be a package deal where you can buy three motors and a Impero Standard 3 ch. wireless remote with three comm cables and a power cable for $3650. We will have more info on that soon. The best deal we have seen for any wireless motor solution is Bartech/Palomar which comes in at $3950 for one channel. I hope everyone realizes what kind of deal this is...
